ALESSANDRA GUERCIO by Samantha Dossena
After the impressive performance she had given at the Miss Idea 2004 and the interview that followed, many readers have asked us about Alessandra Guercio. They wanted to know what she is up to, what else is new in her life… She has appeared again for this year’s Pageant and she has shown us her exceptional capabilities as an entertainer and her instinctive bond with the public was the right choice for the evening. Here we are, then, after a year, presenting you a follow-up interview with ten year old Alessandra Guercio, one of the stars of the Miss Idea Pageant. Alessandra: Well, between this year and last year I appeared on the Maury Povich Show; it was on channel WB11. I also won America’s Most Talented Kids. That was on the Pax channel. I also opened for Michael Bolton. I didn’t get to actually talk to him, though. L’IDEA:
What were those shows like? Alessandra: Well, the Maury Pauvich Show was really exciting because there were a lot of kids there, and also Bobby J, who was on That’s So Raven; he was really funny. All of the hip hop dancers and Jamia were really nice. L’IDEA:
Did you meet a lot of entertainers? Alessandra:
I met Angelo Venuto, Lucas Prada, Daniel Rodriguez, the Mayor (Bloomberg). L’IDEA:
Your voice seems to have improved even more. What’s your secret? (At
this question answered Maurizio Guercio, Alessandra’s father) Maurizio Guercio: She has, for the past 4 or 5 months, been having technical training with a cousin in the family. He has been working with her for the technical aspect, scales, getting her voice to reach notes where she couldn’t reach a year ago... L’IDEA:
I noticed that you have a dancing and singing group that backs you up.
When did they start working with you? Alessandra: They just recently joined, about a month or two ago, because I had a performance and we thought about having dancers. They’re all from Triple Essence Dance School. L’IDEA:
You mention that your sister dances alongside with you. What is it like
working with your sister? Alessandra: Well, when I didn’t work with my sister I felt more scared and nervous, and now when she does it’s more exciting and I am not really nervous. She picks out my clothes, she’s like the fashion person and she helps me with my fashion tips and stuff. L’IDEA:
Do you have any goals regarding your music studies, that is, do you
expect and desire to attend a conservatory or similar school? Alessandra: I would one day like to be like a Mariah Carey or a Celine Dion, a famous singer, and also I would like to go to Julliard for my singing. L’IDEA:
Do you have any other plans or desires not related to your musical
activities? Alessandra: I want to become a dancer like my sister and I also like to teach, so maybe become a teacher. L’IDEA:
What is your official website and what does it contain? Alessandra: The website is www.alessandraguercio.com and it contains photos, some information about me, my upcoming and recent performances… It will soon have video clips of me and possibly a fax and a message board. L’IDEA:
Are you planning to record a CD, and if you make it, do you
intend to do so with known songs or original ones? Alessandra: Yeah, soon. It would be original. Maurizio Guercio: She actually writes music, she composes, well, she writes her own words. She’s put together a whole album with her style added. L’IDEA:
I remember you were signing your autograph for many people at the Miss
Idea show. After awhile, was that tiring and how did you feel about it? Alessandra: At the very end it was a little bit tiring. But I’m actually used to it because I write a lot in school so it doesn’t phase me, it’s normal for me. It makes me feel good. L’IDEA:
What’s it like being backstage before a major event, such as Miss
Idea, for example? Alessandra: It was really fun, I was doing a couple of warm-ups and getting ready to sing. The dancers and I, we were eating and then we all were practicing. And I was practicing vocal warm-ups. It was actually really fun. I was a little nervous before I got on but I always sing so I’m used to singing so it’s only a little bit, not a lot.
