An Exclusive Interview with:

MISS IDEA ONLINE 2003

MONICA LUONGO

by Dominic Campanile

In the past year, L’Idea Magazine continued experementing with their latest project; Miss Idea Online. This year the contest began in the beginning of July and continued until the end of October. Thank You for making this year’s Online Contest a success and we look foward to your continuing support. In this years contest, the contestants had the chance of helping themselves by collecting sponsors which gave them extra points for each one they got. The winner of this years contest made the effort to get five sponsors to help her succeed in capturing the victory. The contest this year was won with hard work and dedication by a young woman by the name of Monica Luongo. She managed to slip away with the title within the last few days. How, you might ask, do i know this. Well this year... everyone knew! L’IdeaMagazine.com’s webmasters put together a graph which allowed all of the voters to see the progress of the contestants as they raced to accumilate voters on their part. Monica was announced as Miss Idea Online 2003 at 6:00 p.m. on October 30th as she passed the runner up, Santa Re David, and the second runner up, Maria Balzano. This win did not come easy. A few votes seperated the three.

I recently had taken the time out to speak with Monica and ask her a few questions.

L’Idea: What made you decide you wanted to participate in Miss Idea Online this year?

Monica: I decided to participate in Miss Idea Online because I wanted to expand my horizons within the Italian community.  I felt that it was a wonderful and exciting opportunity for me to get involved because I have never done anything like this before.  It was a great way to become part of an Italian event with other Italian American girls.
L’Idea: What are your goals as Miss Idea Online this year?

Monica: My goals as Miss Idea Online this year is to get family and friends as well as new Italian faces involved in this event as much as possible and bring us Italians together.  I hope to show others the fun that can come from this.  I plan to hold the title well and join many other events that incor porate my culture. . .
L’Idea: How do you feel about this event?

Monica: This event is extremely beneficial to all Italian American girls because it gives us a chance to have an affair that is just for us, the Italian people, who make up such a large portion of the population.  It makes me happy to see people getting involved in their heritage. I think this also helps to keep the Italian community alive.  VIVA ITALIA! .
L’Idea: What does Miss Idea Online represent to you?

Monica: Miss Idea Online represents, to me, a sense of love and adoration received from my family and friends, as well as the other wonderful contestants who worked hard to get to where they did.  It represents pride, culture, and continual spirit to keep the Italian values and traditions in existence.
L’Idea:What else do you think can be done to help out the Italian American community?

Monica: I feel that there should be more social Italian events for young adults so they can receive the experience, gain the confidence and appreciate the wonders of their Italian heritage.  Being Italian, I know that we are very family oriented.  With this, we learn from our family and are able to reach out to others around us, bring them closer and are able to teach them the meaning of their background so that these principles can be passed on through one’s lifetime. .
L’Idea: Do you have any other comments that you would like to share with our readers?

Monica: I want to thank all who voted.  I hope that in the years to come this event is just as successful and brings as much joy to others, as it did for me.
